Middle East reaches new horizon in IT with Shaheen II

With the improved facilities and increasing scope of information technology among the Middle East countries, the technology development has astonished the world with Saudi Arabia’s Shaheen II (Cray XC40) supercomputer. This high performance machine has entered, for the first time, top ten lists of the most powerful computers on the planet.


According to Top 500 organisation that monitors high-performance machines, Shaheen II (Cray XC40) supercomputer has obtained seventh place beating Stampede, Vulcan of US and JUQUEEN of Germany.

The Shaheen II has a peak number-crunching capacity of 5.536 petaflops. With this it is clearly evident that these countries are striving hard to be the next Silicon Valley in near future.

China’s Tianhe-2 remains the fastest supercomputer in the world for the Fifth consecutive time.

List of Top 10 supercomputers in order: Tianhe-2, Titan, Sequoia, K Computer, Mira, Piz Daint, Shaheen II, Stampede, JUQUEEN, Vulcan.
