New Delhi (Simcorn): Digital India campaign initiated by the
Ministry of communication and IT is expanding its horizon to new levels and
prompting all Government organizations, NGO’s and other institutions to use the
IT technology to improve the work quality and for better time management. As an
initiatives, police verifications for Passports to go online.
As an initiative to support the Digital India program, the
government to launch online police verification process for passports by
integrating the database of the External Affairs Ministry with the Home
Ministry's Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) across the
country.
The project is expected to go on floor by November and it
would be introduced first in Bengaluru as Karnataka has a robust police
database called Police IT. And soon it will spread across whole of India.
There have been lot of complaints regarding the delay in
issuing Passport due to delayed verification process. And with this effect, time
required for issuing the travel document will come down from a month at present
to just a week period.
For this project the government will integrate National
Population Register, Aadhaar and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System
(CCTNS).
